Looking for a taste of Hawaii? Try the perfect tropical blend of passion fruit, orange and guava nectar for the luscious and refreshing beverage described as the very taste of the Hawaiian Islands. Known by its acronym POG (passion fruit-orange-guava), many visitors and returning residents get a sample of the juice immediately upon journeying to the islands. Most commonly served in small, pre-packaged plastic cups, POG is the beverage served on Hawaii’s domestic airlines. But this exotic fruit blend creates a taste memory that lingers long after the vacation is over. Developed in 1971 on the island of Maui, food product consultant Mary Soon, who worked with Haleakala Dairy at the time, created the local beverage. Today, over 1.3 million gallons of POG is consumed in the islands each month produced exclusively by Meadow Gold Dairy. Sometimes referred to as Pass-O-Guava, there are other beverage companies who produce similar juices. POG is perfect for sunset cocktails where it is frequently mixed with rum, whiskey or Champagne for a truly tropical libation.
