Beach Spotlight
Kaunaoa Beach
Kaunaoa Beach (aka Mauna Kea Beach) is a postcard perfect white sand crescent beach fringed with swaying coconut palms, pohuehue (beach morning glory) and naupaka. This nationally ranked beautiful beach is a great place for swimming and snorkeling due to the gradually sloping sandy bottom except during heavy winter surf. Watch the humpback whales, our annual visitors from Alaska, breaching offshore from November thru April. Sightings of honu (green sea turtles) and manta rays are common year-round among an array of tropical fish. No need to pack a picnic since the Hau Tree is just steps away from the beach for great tropical libations, ice cream treats and freshly made sandwiches and burgers. Get there early since public parking passes are limited and stay for an amazing sunset.
